The best time to water the lawn is in the morning between 5am and 9am so that water is not evaporated and mushrooms do not form. If you water later in the day when it is hot more of your water will end up in the air and less in your lawn and landscaping. If you water in the evening the top layer will stay wet longer and encourage mushroom growth which might make you think you live on the west side of the state.
