Hydro-Seeding vs Sodding Lawns in the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla

Is hydro-seeding better than sodding lawns in the Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick) and Walla Walla, Washington?

Hydroseeding is a fast, cost-effective way to have a new lawn that will turn your neighbors green with envy.

Hydroseeding costs only a little more than old fashioned methods such as using dry seeding techniques combined with a messy straw mulch.

The cost to have your new lawn hydroseeded is less than 1/3 the cost of using sod, not counting the price of prepping the soil properly.  Preparing the soil means loosening the top 4″-6″ of the ground and grading it out smoothly. A Roto-Tiller or Harley rake will do nicely for this part of the project.

The process of hydro-seeding fertilizer, seed and mulch with a tack-a-fire is to spray it on. The protective mulch covering has an attractive green appearance. The tack-a-fire keeps the mulch and seed mix from wash-boarding.  That is when the seed forms piles do to over watering.  A special blend of seeds will be used that will be chosen for the conditions and requirements you have. The factors that may go into the choice may be the amount of sun and shade, the terrain, the type of soil and if you have children or pets.

Your lawn will be hydroseeded with a tested, high quality, certified turf mix. Germination time will depend on the weather, the time of year, the amount of water, the area you live in and other factors. Usually ryegrass will be visible in 5-7 days,  Bluegrass will take 21-30 days to germinate.

If the size of your lawn is less than 3,000 square feet then sodding the lawn becomes a more affordable option due to the fact that most companies have a $400 to $500 minimum charge to bring out the hydro-seeding equipment.
